It all began on a warm September morning, when Blake signed into his Tinder account to find that he had matched with a girl from New York who moved to his hometown of San Diego. Courtney was enamored by his sense of humor and dashing looks. They decided to meet at a local brewery named Tiger! Tiger! where Courtney watched Blake walk into the bar from inside her car to see what she was getting herself into. They connected right away, and decided to go to a metal show together after dinner. During the cab ride over, Blake asked her "What accent do you want me to do?" Where she responded "Australian!" Blake spoke in an Australian accent to the cab driver for the entire car ride to the show while Courtney held back fits of laughter.

It was a gray Christmas Day morning in 2022. Courtney could feel that there was something different about the day, but brushed it off. Her mom was in town for the week, and they were headed to Blake's mom's house. There were more people attending the Christmas party at her house than previous years. Nevertheless, Courtney had an urge to pack on more makeup than usual.

Jacque's house was lively, with music and chatter, cooking and drinking wine. Blake chatted with his siblings as Courtney sat with her family on the couch. They began to pass around gifts, opening in awe at each one. Courtney noticed there was a metal cup of wooden spoons beneath the tree, and noted how odd that was.

Blake could be seen pacing outside on the patio, chugging champagne as he walked back and forth. When he came into the kitchen, he called Courtney over. He was holding the metal cup of spoons. He began to say that these spoons had been passed down over generations, and that they were very special. He reached in the cup and brought out a small velvet box. Courtney covered her face with her hands, and began to cry. Before anyone had even noticed, Blake had dropped down on one knee. He told Courtney that she was his world, and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He then asked her if she would marry him. Between her tears, she said yes over and over. But don't ask her for details, because she blacked out from shock halfway through. Also, the spoons were just a distraction... they were actually from Ikea.
